I don't know why this radio is so expensive. Based on reviews, I expected great sound quality and/or superior reception from this radio. Unfortunately, I got neither. I live immediately outside of Boston, in range of many radio stations, but did not find that the Sangean received any more or less than my car stereo or my existing $25 tabletop radio. To boot, the sound quality was lackluster. I do own a Sangean shower radio that i am happy with, but i set different criteria for that one (after all it's only a shower radio). Also of note, I received consecutive defective radios on this sale (the first one had something rattling around inside, and the second had a right-side speaker with static). I will continue my search for a solid radio. Boo.
